Enjoy Family Reunion Locations - Like A Dude Ranch - When You And Your Brood Need A Vacation

By Larry P. Croskey

If you want a place where the Wild West meets modern recreation, or a place that is a suitable venue when it comes to family reunion locations, a dude ranch just might fit the bill. So, whether you wish to rope, drive cattle, or ride a horse like a pro, there's something everyone can enjoy. But what makes these types of activities so attractive?

The American Wild West is steeped in legends, and influenced by many different peoples -- cultures and customs - including the Spanish and Native Americans. And the plains served as the indelible backdrop for the life of the endearing cowboy. And contrary to popular lore, a cowboy's life wasn't filled with the glamour and romanticism that a good number of historians ascribe - he earned roughly forty dollars, per month! He spent most of his time preparing for a cattle round-up in the spring, and another cattle round-up in the fall, or enjoying respite in neighboring cattle towns He was youthful; he was rough; his persona has been emulated by the Hollywood elite; and he is even responsible for inspiring a fashion craze. And even though we all adore the upstanding, hard-working cowboy, we are just as taken - although begrudgingly - by the bandits. The list of notorious bandits is exhaustive and includes the legendary Jesse James, the infamous Billy the Kid and the indelible train robber, Butch Cassidy. And even though there was the upstanding cowboy, and even the outlaw, there was also the skilled cowgirl.

Okay, so there were hard-working chaps and bandits who would conspire to break the law. But you get to focus on the fun, that is sure to follow, any time you participate in a cattle round-up, or taste the mouthwatering selections of a frontier meal. You'll enjoy hearty meal selections served up in chuck-wagon style, and discover many things about the Wild West you could only dream of. At the end of your day, a vacation on a dude ranch is a getaway that is designed with both respite and adventure in mind.

And anyone like me is sure to enjoy the thrill of roping a steer, the intoxicating sights and sounds of the rodeo, or anything that has to do with the electrifying details about the American Wild West. And you may get an opportunity to engage in a popular frontier pastime - the quintessential yodel.

So, if you're in search of good-natured adventure, with the added mix and excitement of Old-West flair, you'll enjoy a weekend getaway at a dude ranch, or one of the popular family reunion locations. Get going; don your best ten-gallon hat, put on your blue jeans and chaps, slip into your best snake-skin boots, and make your way over to the closest dude ranch.
