When I recently upgraded my camera, the first new photo I took, of Lindsay's tattoo, convinced me I had selected well:
This lovely tattoo, on Lindsay's upper left arm, is punctuated by this part of the tattoo on her biceps:
The picture tells the story and the words, all meaning a form of "peace" in Hebrew, Arabic, Sanskrit, and English, punctuate the images just inches away.
Lindsay took a class on world religions at the University of Rhode Island and this influenced her greatly. She wanted the tattoo to focus on the beauty at the heart of religion, and to disregard the conflict that so often plagues religious dogma.
Lindsay feels that the tenet of peace is often lost and this is her way of expressing how it means so much, but is forgotten in relations with people of different backgrounds.
She brought a picture that somewhat embodied how she wanted the tattoo to look in to Artfreek Tattoo in Providence, Rhode Island. She and the artist Brian Mullen collaborated on interpreting what she wanted the piece to embody and she was very happy with the end result.
The tattoo was completed in two short sittings that spanned four hours.
Work from Artfreek has appeared previously on Tattoosday here.
Thanks to Lindsay for sharing this fabulous tattoo with us here on Tattoosday!

Dani Helps Tattoosday Celebrate 50 Years of Statehood
Today is the 50th anniversary of Hawaiian statehood.
As a former resident of the Aloha State, I thought we could honor the occasion with a Hawaii-themed tattoo:
This cool tiki is on the right forearm of Dani, who estimates she is 60% covered in ink.
Dani and I met near Penn Plaza and had a lovely chat about tattoos. This tiki is one of her favorites.
Don Lussier at Artfreek Tattoo basically free-handed the design on her. Don is the ex-husband of Doris, who is a friend of Dani's. A piece from Artfreek appeared last month on Tattoosday here.
She has the tiki as an acknowledgment of her heritage, being part Hawaiian, with ancestors two or three generations back.
She loves the detail Don put into the piece, especially the heart inked on the tiki's left arm.
Mahalo nui loa to Dani for sharing this great tattoo with us here, and helping Tattoosday celebrate Hawaii's Golden Anniversary!

Jonathan Gives Us a Sun on a Sunday
I met Jonathan in Brooklyn Heights and he shared this, one of his four tattoos:
This tattoo, on his inner right forearm is based on artwork he found on the CD of Ofra Haza, an Israeli musician with Yemenite roots.
Jonathan believes it to be a middle-Eastern symbol that is a "stylized sun." It is ambiguous enough to cause many to take pause and ask him what it is. Some have even questioned if the outer circle is comprised of coffee beans. He appreciates the solar representation illuminating his arm.
The tattoo was inked by Steve at Artfreek Tattoo in Providence, Rhode Island.
Thanks to Jonathan for sharing his tattoo with us here on Tattoosday!
